The Yellow Dotted Goby is a small, vibrant species known for its striking appearance, featuring a pale yellow body adorned with white or light yellow spots. This goby is an excellent addition to reef aquariums, prized for its peaceful nature and beneficial behavior as a sand sifter. Its constant burrowing and sand-sifting help keep the substrate clean and free from detritus.
The Yellow Dotted Goby typically grows up to 4 inches and requires a tank with a fine, sandy substrate to allow for burrowing. Live rock structures are also beneficial, offering hiding spots and creating a more natural habitat. These gobies are generally peaceful and make great community tank mates, though they may display territorial behavior towards other gobies if the tank is too small.
In the wild, they are found in shallow waters around coral reefs and sandy areas in the Indo-Pacific region. Their diet consists mainly of small invertebrates and algae that they sift from the sand. In captivity, they will thrive on a diet of frozen and live brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. They may also graze on algae and detritus in the tank.
