The Foxface Rabbitfish, also known as the Foxface Lo or simply Foxface (Siganus vulpinus), is a beautiful and unique species recognized for its bright yellow body and contrasting black and white face mask. This fish has long, venomous dorsal spines, which it uses for defense against predators. Though the venom is mild, care should be taken when handling the fish or working in the tank. The Foxface is highly valued in marine aquariums for its algae-eating abilities, making it a functional and visually appealing addition to reef and community tanks.
Growing up to 9 inches in length, the Foxface Rabbitfish requires a tank of at least 125 gallons with plenty of open swimming space and live rock for grazing. It is generally peaceful and gets along well with most other fish, though it may become territorial towards other rabbitfish or similar species.
The Foxface is considered reef-safe with caution, as it typically will not harm corals but may occasionally nip at soft corals or invertebrates, especially if underfed. It thrives on a diet of marine algae, seaweed, and spirulina, supplemented with frozen meaty foods such as mysis shrimp. Providing a balanced diet will help keep its vibrant colors and ensure its health.
