The Forktail Blenny, also known as the Lyretail Blenny or Meiacanthus atrodorsalis, is a small and peaceful species known for its striking color combination and unique forked tail. Its body typically features a gradient of colors, with a bright blue to yellow body and a dark, contrasting stripe running along its back. This blenny is a hardy fish, making it a great addition to both beginner and advanced marine aquariums.
Growing to about 4 inches in length, the Forktail Blenny requires a tank of at least 30 gallons with plenty of live rock for hiding and perching. It is a peaceful species that coexists well with a variety of other fish and is generally not aggressive. However, it may become territorial towards other blennies or similar-looking species if space is limited.
The Forktail Blenny is completely reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent addition to a reef tank. This species is primarily carnivorous, and in captivity, it thrives on a varied diet of frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets.
