The Triangular Butterflyfish, also known as the Triangle Butterflyfish or Chaetodon triangulum, is a uniquely shaped species that features a triangular body and striking black and white patterns with yellow accents. Its body is white with a bold black triangular marking that gives it its name, complemented by yellow highlights on the dorsal and tail fins. This fish adds elegance and intrigue to any marine aquarium due to its distinctive shape and coloration.
Growing up to 6 inches, the Triangular Butterflyfish requires a tank of at least 75 gallons with plenty of open swimming space and live rock for grazing and hiding. It is a peaceful species and generally gets along well with other non-aggressive tank mates. However, like many butterflyfish, it can become territorial toward other butterflyfish if housed in a confined space.
This species is considered reef-safe with caution, as it may nip at soft corals, certain invertebrates, and clams, making it better suited for fish-only or carefully monitored reef aquariums. To keep this butterflyfish healthy, provide a varied diet of frozen meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, along with some algae-based foods.
