The Tail Spot Blenny is a small, peaceful, and charismatic fish known for its distinctive features, including a dark body with a prominent white spot near the base of its tail, giving it its common name. Its elongated body and large eyes add to its endearing appearance, making it a popular choice for reef and nano aquariums. The Tail Spot Blenny is highly active and loves to perch on rocks and observe its surroundings.
Growing up to 2.5 inches in length, the Tail Spot Blenny is ideal for smaller aquariums of at least 10 gallons, though it appreciates a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. These blennies are peaceful and get along well with other tank mates, though they may show mild territorial behavior towards other blennies in close quarters.
This species is reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates. In fact, the Tail Spot Blenny is an excellent algae grazer, helping to control nuisance algae growth in the tank. A varied diet that includes algae-based foods, spirulina, and occasional frozen meaty foods like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp will keep it healthy and happy.
