The Lemon Butterflyfish, also known as the Yellow Butterflyfish (Chaetodon miliaris), is a bright and vibrant species known for its stunning lemon-yellow body, often adorned with small dark spots near its dorsal fin and a black spot on the upper rear part of the body. Its overall vibrant yellow color, combined with its peaceful nature, makes it a favorite among marine aquarium enthusiasts, especially in reef setups.
Growing up to 5 inches in length, the Lemon Butterflyfish requires a tank of at least 75 gallons, providing plenty of space for swimming as well as live rock for hiding and grazing. This species is peaceful and will generally coexist well with other non-aggressive fish species. However, like other butterflyfish, it may show territorial behavior towards other butterflyfish, especially in smaller tanks.
The Lemon Butterflyfish is considered reef-safe with caution. It typically doesn't harm corals but may occasionally nip at soft corals, anemones, or invertebrates, so careful monitoring is recommended when keeping it in a reef aquarium. To maintain its health, offer a varied diet that includes frozen meaty foods like mysis shrimp and brine shrimp, along with marine algae and high-quality pellets.
